Mizzou Agricultural Education Program Recognized for Excellence

Faculty, graduate students and alumni of the Mizzou Agricultural Education program participated in the annual meeting of the American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE) held in Reno, Nev. on May 20–23, 2008.

Members of the Mizzou contingent presented five refereed research papers and two innovative idea posters.

The following individuals were recognized for their excellence:

Outstanding Article in the Journal of Agricultural Education

  • Jonathan D. Ulmer and Robert M. Torres, for their paper, "A Comparison of the Cognitive Behaviors Exhibited by Secondary Agriculture and Science Teachers."

Outstanding Dissertation Award

  • James C. Anderson II (Robert M. Torres, adviser), for his dissertation, "Effect Of Problem-based Learning On Knowledge Acquisition, Knowledge Retention, And Critical Thinking Ability Of Agriculture Students In Urban Schools."

Outstanding New Professional

  • Anna Ball, Ph.D.
 

Torres Receives Honorary State FFA Degree

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 17, 2008—Robert Torres of Columbia, Mo., was named an Honorary State FFA Degree recipient at the 80th Missouri FFA Convention.

Torres is a professor of agricultural education at the University of Missouri. He assists in coordinating FFA career development events He serves as a member of the consultants to the National FFA Board of Directors.

Torres is also a member of the National Board of Trustees and a member of several National FFA Task Forces. He serves on the National FFA Convention Site Selection committee, is a National Horse Career Event Superintendent and a National FFA Officer Adult Consultant.

 

Terry Receives Honorary State FFA Degree

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 17, 2008—Robert Terry, Jr. of Columbia, Mo., was named an Honorary State FFA Degree recipient at the 80th Missouri FFA Convention.

Terry is agricultural education joint staff at University of Missouri. He assists with national, state and district career development events.

He serves as a consultant to the National FFA Board of Directors, a member of the National FFA Foundation Board of Trustees and a delegation member of the FFA Goodwill Tour of Japan.

 

About the FFA

The Missouri FFA Association recognizes Honorary State FFA Degree recipients each year at its annual state convention for their valuable efforts and contributions to the FFA organization and its members. Those eligible to receive the Honorary FFA Degree include farmers, school superintendents, principals, members of the board of education, chapter advisers, teachers, staff members in agricultural education, businessmen and others who are helping to advance agricultural education and the FFA while rendering outstanding service.

The Missouri FFA has 24,137 members representing 311 chapters. The national organization has more than 500,000 members representing 7,358 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.

The FFA Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
