Agricultural Education Minors
Agricultural Education Minor
This course of study focuses on the learning and teaching of agricultural topics in informal settings.
- Minor programs require a 2.5 GPA and shall include a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of course credit in Agricultural Education.
- Students must complete a minimum of six (6) hours course work in Agricultural Education courses numbered 3000 or above.
Leadership Minor
Vision Statement
Every graduate of the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources should be prepared to be a leader in his/her profession and community. Public speaking, analytical reasoning, critical thinking, effective writing, and group work are vital parts of most careers. In addition, we hope to encourage civic participation on the state, regional, national and international levels. Leaders must be equipped with the practical, visionary, and ethical skills that will be needed in the future.
Goals
Our goals are to prepare graduates of the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources for leadership positions in their careers as well as within their communities and to encourage them to assume such roles.
After completing the leadership course sequence, CAFNR students will be able to:
- Apply their understanding of the leadership process through involvement in activities outside of the classroom.
- Carry out the practical skills necessary for those in leadership positions such as composing oral and written communications, organizing groups, service to others, and conducting effective meetings.
- Create overarching visions of personal, organizational and community goals and understand how to empower and motivate others towards these goals.
- Make ethical decisions.
Requirements for a Minor in Leadership
The minor in Agricultural Leadership is for students interested in enhancing their public speaking, analytical reasoning, critical thinking, effective writing and group work skills. A student must complete 15 credit hours of coursework related to leadership and personal development from the list of approved courses. The Coordinator of the Minor in Leadership must approve courses not on the list. With appropriate approval, an internship with a focus upon providing the student practical experiences in leadership and supervisory roles can be counted toward the 15-hour requirement.
