2011 Rural Sociology Graduate Student Awards
Kenny Sherin was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award. The Excellence in Teaching Award is selected based on demonstrated excellence and lasting impact in the classroom, positive attitude and personality, enthusiasm and commitment, and mentorship to peers and/or undergraduates.
Cecilia Turin was awarded the Excellence in Research Award. The Excellence in Research Award recipient is selected based on demonstrated excellence and lasting impact through contributions to research, future promise as a researcher, originality, imagination, satisfactory progress toward a degree and research mentoring to peers.
Jamie Christianson was awarded Outstanding Graduate Student Service Award. The Outstanding Graduate Student Service Award is given to a student whose participation and commitment to activities outside the classroom has advanced the interests of the University of Missouri and/or the broader community.
Within the University, recipients will be those who advance the interests of graduate students, improve the quality of life for graduate students, and/or contribute to the larger and/or surrounding academic community.
Within the Columbia community, recipients will have advanced the quality of life and well-being in the community through their active participation and leadership in community organizations and events. The service activity should be in addition to or outside of degree requirements or assistantship duties.
