Welcome to the rural sociology department at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where rural sociology classes have been taught since 1921.

Rural issues and topics, applications of sociology and international dimensions characterize the study of rural sociology.

Graduate Program

If you are interested in a career that analyzes and helps solve the problems of rural people and their communities throughout the world, then a graduate degree in rural sociology from CAFNR is the first step.

We offer master's and doctoral degrees.

Undergraduate Options

We do not currently offer an undergraduate major in rural sociology; however, we offer many undergraduate options. Rural Sociology offers a rural sociology minor and participates in the general agriculture major, environmental studies certificate and the minor in youth services.
